The fossil fuel industry is proposing an extreme new method of gas extraction to get around New York State’s fracking ban law by using carbon dioxide (CO2) - instead of water - to get gas from the Marcellus Shale.The company pushing this is called Southern Tier CO2 to Clean Energy Solutions aka “Southern Tier Solutions” and is being led by Texas frontman CEO Bryce Phillips.They are seeking to drill thousands of gas wells, construct a dozen gas fired power plants, and build a system of new pipelines in the Southern Tier region of our beautiful state.Much like high-volume hydraulic fracturing, extracting gas using CO2 is dangerous and poses a threat to the environment, public health, and New York’s climate goals. At the same time, this form of gas extraction is experimental.

Facts about ‘Southern Tier Solutions’
Was only formed a few months ago.
Will not disclose who is funding it.
In October 2023, sent over 6,500 letters to landowners in Broome, Tioga and Chemung counties urging landowners to sign land leases for only $10 for an entire parcel, whether it’s 30 acres or 1,000 acres!
Is being led by Texas frontman, Southern Tier Solutions President Bryce Phillips, who has stated their goal is to lease 1 million acres, and hopes to have test wells in NY as soon as this spring.
Has held 5 public meetings in the Southern Tier urging landowners to sign their mineral rights away.
Has not submitted any applications to New York State agencies.
The good news: The anti-fracking movement is determined to stop this!

A bill amending the New York State law banning high-volume hydraulic fracturing to include CO2 gas extraction has been introduced by NYS Assemblymember Anna Kelles and State Senator Lea Webb.
